USC Student-Run Clinic

The mission of the USC Student-Run Clinic (SRC) is to deliver quality patient care to the underserved people of Los Angeles, and enhance health professional education through an inter-professional, team-based approach to health care.

Students from four professions: occupational therapy, medicine, pharmacy, and physician assistants work together in interprofessional Care Teams under close supervision of licensed USC Preceptors from all four professions. The Care Teams also consist of students at different levels of training, allowing for multiple layers of learning. Students can learn about each other’s unique roles in healthcare delivery and work together to assess, diagnose, and optimize the patient’s health and lifestyle to suit their unique needs.

The SRC provides occupational therapy students enriching opportunities, including the chance (1) to advocate for the occupational therapy profession, (2) to work directly with people in the primary care setting, and (3) to critically problem-solve patient care-plans while working in collaborative interprofessional Care Teams. Additionally, occupational therapy students contribute to the Care Team in a unique way by providing the team with the patient’s narrative.

How to Get Involved

Attend the information session about the SRC presented by the members of the SRC Executive Board in the Fall. This presentation introduces first-year occupational therapy Master’s students to the mission, structure, projects, and volunteer opportunities in the SRC.

Events

Every Fall, the SRC organizes the Inter-professional Health Symposium that highlights current issues in primary care and offers workshops on inter-professional topics and skills. This year’s Symposium was held on October 19, 2013 at the USC Health Sciences Campus.
