Biography

A world-renowned expert on the behavior of chimpanzees, her research on mother-infant interactions and the introduction of infants to the chimpanzee culture has generated broad interest in understanding the roots of occupational behavior in non-human primates. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues, and among her many accolades and honors has been named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
