Life Advisor Training Program
Together we can rise to the challenge of meeting society’s preventive healthcare needs while increasing the quality of life for our clients today.
Health and wellness is becoming an increasingly important intervention approach and practice area for all occupational therapists. The coming paradigm shift in health care toward prevention and wellness, integrated into individual client’s lifestyles, will require professionals who are trained in utilizing science- and evidence-based intervention approaches to prevent and manage chronic health conditions such as obesity, diabetes and tobacco dependence.
For these very reasons, AOTA President Florence Clark and an interdisciplinary team of health and medical experts developed USC’s Life Advisor Training Program to fill the gap between existing wellness and prevention knowledge and the traditional models of continuing education. USC’s Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is world-renowned for its advances in the field of wellness and prevention through both ground-breaking research and innovative clinical practice models. The Life Advisor Training Program is designed to prepare occupational therapist and affiliated health care professionals to fulfill this pressing societal need.
In 2011, USC’s Life Advisor Training Program will host several 3-day seminars across the country to teach wellness and prevention concepts for immediate application in all OT practice settings. Participants in the Life Advisor Training Program will:
- Learn about modifiable lifestyle factors and their impact on the health and well-being of your clients.
- Review pertinent biological and physiological systems of the body their relationship to healthy living and prevention of chronic disease.
- Learn the art of coaching clients towards lifestyle change through designing sustainable, customized, healthy-living plans for diverse clientele.
- Learn how to holistically assess clients by integrating their needs and goals with genetic, medical, environmental and nutritional considerations.
- Enable clients to identify targeted goals related to health and fitness, emotional well-being, stress reduction and balanced living.
